Success in the Fashion Industry for Asquith Student
Kaela Hayes (Yr 12, 2003) – talented student of Textiles & Design, creator of an amazing outfit from old socks, ties & buttons for her 2003 HSC Major Textiles Project; winner of an $18,000 scholarship to The Raffles Design Institute of Fashion - has had more success in the world of fashion.
As a first year student of fashion, Kaela became a finalist in the “Thirteenth Hempel Award, China International Young Fashion Design Contest” that has been run world wide. Kaela, not only designed the outfits, but made the patterns, designed the fabric that she had especially printed, as well as made the garments, and coordinated all the necessary accessories.
Kaela travelled to Beijing, together with 30 other finalists from around the world, to display her outfits in China Fashion Week at the end of March. First and second place winners received cash prizes as well as a trip to Shanghai and the Hempel factory over a two week period. Their garments are kept by the organisers to be used for any thing related to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Students and staff of AGHS are very proud of Kaela’s achievements and wish her lots of success in her fashion design career.
