Multicultural Day 2008
Asquith Girls High School kept the tradition of a Multicultural Assembly on Friday 28 th March. The variety of the performances represented the variety of cultures in the school and the wider Australian community.
The event was expertly compered by Kathryn Crawley and Zoe O’Rourke. The production was by Year 11 Entertainment under the guidance of Mrs Sekula, who as always gets the show on the road.
Guest speaker Mrs Yoshiko Adare gave an insightful account of the differences of life in Japan and Australia.
A highlight of the day was the fashion parade with students displaying traditional and modern fashions representing their family background. This year Australian costumes were included.
The final event of the day was a football (soccer) match between the teachers and the students.

YEARS 5-6 OPEN NIGHT
On Monday 17 th March, Asquith Girls held the annual Open Night for students in Years 5 and 6. The night gave primary school students and their parents a chance to explore the school and all the facilities and opportunities we offer.
Approximately 300 students and their parents attended the evening and were guided all around the school by Year 7 volunteer students and the Year 12 Prefects. The guided tour saw groups discovering all the different faculties and subjects we offer here at Asquith Girls; Science, English, Design and Technology, Drama, Dance, IT, PDHPE, Music, Geography, History and the Library to name a few.
Not only was Open Night a wonderful opportunity for the 300 families that visited our school, but also a celebration of the great things that happen at Asquith Girls. The stage band was sensational, the student speakers excellent, and the student guides and classroom helpers welcoming and informative. The quality teaching and learning that happens in this school was evident in the class displays.
We certainly take great pride in our school community with the P and C providing support through the refreshments supplied to all the visitors.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2008 BREAKFAST
“Celebrating Women’s Achievements”
Friday 7th March the school celebrated its fifth International Women’s Day Breakfast at
Asquith
Girls
High School . We joined women around the world who are also commemorating progress towards equality, justice, peace and the development of women’s rights. We reflected on the progress achieved and celebrate the contributions, courage and determination of ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the development of women’s rights. This year our breakfast celebrated women’s achievements – from the ordinary to the extraordinary. We also shared our thoughts with the girls and women at our sister school in
Panjshir
Valley and their struggle to empower and educate young women so that they too can contribute fully to their country’s development.

Mrs Christine Murray and School Captain Niloufar Kermani
